Learning how to do a few simple home plumbing repairs can save you a ton of money. In this video, master plumber Tim Flynn shows you how to clear a clogged toilet with a closet auger. "I'm Tim Flynn and I'm the owner of Winters Plumbing and Heating in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Winters Company offers plumbing, heating, cooling. If you need service today; we're the business to call. My website is wintershomeservices.com. I'll be talking to you today about plumbing. So sometimes the plunger doesn't work to do the job, so you need a closet auger. And this is what you'll find in most plumbers trucks and you'll find this at hardware stores for people that don't like to mess around. So, what you'd do is take the closet auger, lay it down on the ground, take the handle, and you would wanna be careful of this, if you have lower ceilings. Don't poke this through the ceiling. Take the closet auger and insert in. Start to turn the handle at the top and you'll see the handle going down into the bowl and what's going on is the metal wires going down the drain to clear the toilet. Then you want to draw it back quickly, see if the water goes down, which it is. Give the toilet a flush, while the auger is still in it. While this is refilling, one thing you wanna make sure of, is that this little plastic piece here is on the porcelain 'cause you don't want to scratch the porcelain with this head. Re- insert in, just to be sure, plus it cleans off the snakehead too. Let it fill back up again, let it flush, you see the water go down. Let your toilet be filled so you can see if it's fixed or not, done. You just cleared your own toilet."
Ramona's Plumber, Greg Chick, shows how to clear a soft clog in a toilet using a closet auger. Using this inexpensive tool (about $35 at the home store), and a little practice you can save hundreds of dollars in plumbing service-call costs with each use. For this video, Greg created a clog in a toilet drain using paper towels. During the unclogging process there is some rust colored water visible in the bowl - That IS rust from the auger itself, not anything nastier that that. Greg talks about how to diagnose if the plug is in the toilet, or farther down the drain; he talks about the closet auger and demonstrates its use; and how to check for a common reason the toilet clogged in the first place. How To Unclog a Toilet: Auger a Toilet In this video, I show you how to snake a toilet using an auger. I watched other people's videos but the men assumed the viewer had a lot more strength than this YouTuber does. Make sure you DON'T use chemicals before using the auger/snake. If you put a chemical into the toilet, using the auger after that can make the chemical splash back on you and will get the chemical on the auger. Try the auger/snake before trying other methods. A lot of people who've watched this video have written a comment saying it worked! It cleared and the toilet flushes as it should. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FOLLOW ME AT: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gloryb_tv/ Blog: http://www.GloryB-TV.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GloryB-TV-287233278883993/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/GloryB_TV Email: Glory@GloryB-TV.com YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/gloryb-tv *SOME links provided above are affiliate links ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Products used or mentioned: Toilet Auger: http://amzn.to/1JEHN1F ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ See this video where I demonstrate using an accordion-style plunger that is easy to use: https://youtu.be/MZv1oSXFz-U ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MORE AROUND-THE-HOUSE VIDEOS: On the playlist shortlink: http://bit.ly/1GBGUsu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wood Trim, Crown Molding, & Other Decorative Wood Ideas: https://youtu.be/xH4DEe6YsWE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies: https://youtu.be/o4xWyksZvTQ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out - Automatic Astronomic Outdoor Light Timers: https://youtu.be/g4bh3agnZrQ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to Get Rid of Tree Root Suckers: https://youtu.be/fpIbOg3TR44 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wipe New Headlight Restore - Does it Really Work? -- https://youtu.be/dtqlXeQavOE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to Unclog a Garbage Disposal Drain Pipe - Easily! -- https://youtu.be/59b5vyk-BRc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ALL of my AMAZON favorites are at the following link: http://amzn.to/2DsyaWA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Learn my secrets for MAKING MONEY on YouTube – see this video: https://youtu.be/EsEX8xidjfc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Unlike a toilet plunger, which forces water through the u-trap of the toilet, an auger extends a spring coil through the entire u-trap of the toilet up to about 3 feet. A length that usually pushes through any blockage in caught the toilet. Remember at 3 feet an auger is only used to clear the obstructions in the toilet itself and cannot reach the sewer line. If the toilet is clear and the blockage is located in the sewer line then a professional plumber will need to snake the line. Tools Needed Augers are available at most hardware stores and home improvement centers. Making the Repair To begin, extend the crank handle of the auger, retracting the coils into the shaft. Then insert the coil head into the toilet bowl with the coils in the drain. Once positioned crank and pull the handle toward the shaft of the auger, which will extend the coil head into the toilet's u-trap. Crank the handle through any blocked spots, until the auger is fully extended. There may be some difficult spots, though once the blockage is free water should begin to drain from the bowel. Once water begins to drain freely reverse the crank handle retracting the coil head back into the auger body and flush the toilet. The toilet should cycle completed after the first attempt although in some circumstances this process may need to be repeated 2 or 3 times for the toilet to clear.
