Creating a Dynamic Skill System Q/A in Unity3d for RPGs, Shooters, etc.

Question and Answers that I have received in the first two videos covering the Dynamic Skills system I am currently developing. Q: Are the 3D models included? A: No, but available on the Unity Asset Stores and Unreal Marketplace. Q: I would like to see such systems for multiplayer-aware. Or is that the case? A: Easily applies to multiplayer systems, just might need to modify the SkillGiver class. Q: How big can you make the skill tree? You know if it supports adding multiple braches to gain final skill. Like in order to own a restraunt, a player needs: Social 12+, financing 15+, leadership 12+. to unlock business owner skill. A: Super easy, literally over 2,000,000,000 or Int32.MaxValue. That is a great question, and I know this would fit your criteria perfectly. This system is constrained only by your imagination and the integer overflow exception --------------------- Breaking the mold of the standard skill tree systems, I show a way to create dynamic, discoverable skills that can be easily applied to your current Player or NPC prefabs. This first video shows the structure of the Skill class, a selectable Skill Type such as Combat, Social, Passive, etc, and how to discover your skills. ----------------------- Part 1: https://youtu.be/YrIDXXNTdMc Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3ZaLBxVPw4

Deterministic, procedurally generated biomes in Unity

Each room has a unique seed that determines the shape and coloration of the terrain, the type, placement, and rotation of the plants, and the color and density of the atmosphere. I'm using Unity's job system for most of the biome setup. You can see a slight delay in the rendering of new rooms as the threads generating the data take a few milliseconds to complete. The character controller is completely data-driven. No colliders or raycasting. Movement is locked to a grid. The world is deterministic. Every room's seed is determined by its position in the world, and the seed is used to initialize the random number generator and simplex noise generator. So room [4452,5322] will always have the same exact appearance provided that the room generation algorithms remain unchanged. Because the simplex noise library I'm currently using doesn't take negative values, there's a left limit and a lower limit to the world. The seed I use is a concatenation of the x and z room location, and the seed is an Int32, so the right limit and upper limit are both constrained by the max value of an Int32 (2147483647). There's ways to work around this, but it's probably unnecessary to do so since the grid is so large that it's effectively infinite. The cluster of rooms is always shifted back to the origin of Unity's coordinate system to avoid errors stemming from floating-point calculations on large values. Originally they were located at their real-world location, but that would start producing errors as the player began exploring far out regions. With the scales used in this video, anything past 37 rooms in the x or z direction would begin to show jitter/wobbling. The plant meshes are rendered in a single batch using Graphics.DrawMeshInstanced. This boosts performance by a lot, but will make it difficult if I want to modify individual plants (scale, position, rotation, material, mesh, existence, etc.). But overall I think it's a better choice than the alternatives, which are limited to giving them each their own GameObject (bad performance with the amount of plants I have, but very easy to modify them) or combining them into a single mesh (good performance, but a heavy workload just to change a single plant). I'm placing a high priority on performance for this project since one of my goals is for it to run well on slow machines and mobile devices. The avoidance of expensive physics functions, and the use of threading, low-poly models, and GPU instancing were all chosen with that in mind. The atmosphere is just a particle system of billboards where the texture is a little puff of fog. I originally had water in the areas that are now gaps that drop off into outer space. I think the space looks cooler. I will probably re-add the water eventually. All the art was done by me in a program called MagicaVoxel. Movement between rooms will eventually be some kind of teleportation mechanic since, as you can see, the boundary between neighboring rooms rarely sync up. Or I'll blend the rooms' edges together in some way so I can retain the smooth transition you see in the video. portfolio: http://apiotrow.github.io/ blog: http://apiotrow.github.io/blog/ github: https://github.com/apiotrow twitter: https://twitter.com/apiotwork contact: aaron.p.piotrowski@gmail.com

Parse TryParse In C# | Convert String To Data Types C#
