"KGD Architecture leveraging BIM in driving design excellence."
ROSSLYN, VA - KGD Architecture demonstrated their forward thinking approach and design sensibility with an Honorable Mention entry in the 2012 NAIOP Office Building of the Future design competition. Architectural practices from around the country were tasked with developing their vision for the design and operations of an office building to be opened in 2020. The competition provided designers the opportunity to investigate and address future space utilization trends while considering the impact the office building will have on urban planning, commercial real estate, and the environment. KGD's concept focuses on creating a flexible template for open office space that emphasizes human health and well-being. As technology is now accessible almost constantly, the role of the office is to provide inspirational space that allows people to connect and collaborate. -Thin building floor plates allow maximum access to natural light and ventilation. -Endless configurations of work space are possible given the column-free floor plan. -The plan allows easy adaptability to a hotel or residential use in the future if owner needs change. -The facade's shading system prevents unwanted solar gain and eliminates glare from workspaces while maintaining consistent daylighting. -Shading elements also harvest solar energy and purify the air through the use of a nanoparticle coating.

2016 was a year of inspiration, introspection and design. This being my heaviest year of travel to date, my studio hours and production were way below average. However when I was in the studio, I rocked it and created some great oil paintings! While on the road this year I did more writing and sketching than when I was in art school 20 years ago. I investigated parts of the world and parts of my psyche that were previously unknown to me. After a tumultuous 2016, I'm ready for 2017. The seeds are planted. The proposals have been submitted. The designs and concepts are ready to grow! More information at: KarlGarzanDesigns.com
